Clean Program

A few years ago we went from generally eating healthy, to really discovering the best way to eat for our bodies. Each year we participate in the Clean Program’s 21-Day Cleanse to reset our system. The rest of the time we balance clean eating with indulging; a lifestyle skill that took some time to master. This section provides a little information on eating clean and the Clean program by Dr. Junger.

WHAT IS CLEAN EATING?

“Eating clean” involves a diet of whole, natural foods. Clean foods are unprocessed, and do not contain preservatives, added sugar, or artificial ingredients. However, eating clean is a personal journey and different for everyone!

WHAT IS THE CLEAN PROGRAM?

The Clean program by Dr. Junger takes clean eating one step further, and eliminates otherwise “clean foods” that are potential allergens and difficult to digest (i.e. gluten, dairy, soy, corn etc.). The program also eliminates foods that are high in starches (i.e. potatoes, white rice, etc.), and foods that are high in natural sugar, causing blood sugar to rise (i.e. bananas, strawberries, raisins). Click HERE for the full elimination list. The idea is to participate in a 21-day cleanse, ridding your body of built up toxins, aiding your digestive system, and sustaining blood sugar to eliminate unnecessary cravings and overeating.

There are two cleanses: Clean Cleanse which targets detoxifying the body, and Clean Gut which targets cleaning out and repairing the digestive system. Both cleanses focus on HEALTH not weight loss, although weight loss is most often an added bonus. Eliminated foods (i.e. gluten, dairy) can then be added back in slowly as you listen to your body for any reactions. This program is more of a “lifestyle” rather than a quick fix.

HOW DO WE INCORPORATE CLEAN INTO OUR DAILY LIVES?

We participate in one 21-day Clean cleanse per year to reset our bodies. The rest of the time we aim to eat foods that are whole and natural as often as possible. We balance this with our social lives, and all the amazing food NYC has to offer.

When we find ourselves falling off track, we do a “mini cleanse” for 7-10 days to get back ON track and reduce our cravings for junk food.If you would like more information we suggest you read the book CLEAN by Dr. Junger.
