My Favorite Non-Toxic Nail Polish Brands

Polish Beyond OPI and Essie

When it comes to nails, I never used to think twice about whether a polish was toxic or not. If I liked a color, I grabbed it. Then I got pregnant and started researching all of the things I needed to cut out, and toxic nail polish was on the list. Now, I’m not going to not get manicures. A girl needs to look put together. 🙂 However, I did a bit of research to see what the best non-toxic polish options are for when I head to the salon.

Let’s talk about the toxic thing first. I honestly don’t know enough about it to firmly believe painting my nails with OPI will be detrimental to my baby. But some studies show the toxic ingredients in nail polish actually can get absorbed through the nail bed and into the bloodstream, believing this can be harmful to the fetus. The main toxic culprits are toluene, formaldehyde and phthalates. Luckily, there are a ton of polishes without these guys in there.

I’ve got all the details below! Essie is on the list of 3-free nail polish which is awesome because it’s basically found everywhere. But if you want to really cut down on the toxins, look father down the list. If the salon you go to doesn’t have a good option, throw one of your favorite non-toxic polishes in your bag. Instead of thinking of myself as the pregnant psycho, I like to think of myself as the boushy betch who would prefer to have her nails painted with an $18 bottle of Smith & Cult. Whatever works. 😉 Click any polish for more details!

I have personally used Smith & Cult, Tenoverton, Jin Soon, Butter, Sundays, Zoya, Essie and Nars and love them all! Smith & Cult has to be my favorite for doing my nails myself. It goes on beautifully, even if you aren’t good at doing your nails yourself, and dries quickly! The top and bottom coat are key!
