It’s Day 2 of the 7-day Clean Cleanse! I stopped by the Clean Program’s NYC office yesterday to pick up our Clean kits and meet some of the staff! Not only is the office in a sick location in the city, everyone was so nice! I got to meet Albert Bitton, one of the co-founders. He looked like he was working on something cool. I tried to peek, but I’m not that stealth… 😉
So lets talk about another factor in this Clean Cleanse. It’s called the “12-hour window.” Essentially, this means that after your dinnertime smoothie or soup you should wait 12 hours before drinking your morning smoothie. So if your dinner smoothie is at 8pm, your breakfast smoothie should be at 8am (or later). Dr. Junger’s reasoning behind this is that your body starts to go into “deep detox mode” approximately eight hours after your last meal. If we are always eating, we aren’t giving our digestive system a break!
The whole not eating after dinner thing tends to be a little more mental than anything else. I make sure I have a really filling and satisfying smoothie for dinner, and then switch up the flavors with something refreshing in the morning. This Kale and Kiwi smoothie is great for breakfast! Although it’s light and fruity, it’s still packed with protein to hold you over until lunch.
- 10 oz coconut water
- 2 kiwis, peeled and chopped
- 1 large handful of kale
- 1 scoop of vanilla protein
- 1-2 handfuls of ice
- Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
